CreatedOn 16/11/2001 the Public Transport Sector Regulatory Authority was established, which was only concerned with the transportation of passengers in accordance with the provisions of the Public Transport Law for Passengers, and in 2010 a new law was issued to include the authority with greater activities and powers related to all types of road transport in the Kingdom to replace the Land Transport Regulatory Authority According to this law, the Public Transport Sector Regulatory Authority is replaced by the Regulatory Authority.The Authoritys tasks:Implementing the general policy for land transportation.Work to meet the demand for road transport services and secure them at a good level and appropriate cost.Planning the road transport services network, its facilities and its paths.Setting the necessary plans for establishing, operating and implementing land transport facilities.Locating land transport facilities in coordination with the relevant authorities, managing and supervising their services.Coordination with the competent authorities in developing road construction plans and maintenance programs in the Kingdom and submitting its recommendations in this regard to achieve the public interest of the beneficiaries.Establish procedures for preventing road transport accidents and develop them according to international requirements in cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities.
